30 Year Anniversary

On Saturday 3rd August 2019, we held a Funeral Fayre/Open Day to mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of West Suffolk Crematorium. We were very well supported, as always, from our friends and colleagues in the industry. There were vintage hearses, a motorcycle hearse, bicycle hearse, VW hearse and a handcrafted wooden bier. Plus beautiful black horses with carriage who gave the children rides around the ground. We also had a dove release and demonstrations of stonemasonry and floristry.

Also available for help and questions were the Samaritans as well as Civil Celebrants and Humanist Celebrants.

A memorial service was held in the St Edmunds Chapel, during which Adrian Graves dedicated our new lectern, donated in memory of his father the Rev. Canon Eric Graves, who was part of the original working party who built the crematorium.

The sun shone all day and everyone involved felt we had a lovely relaxed event, during which many members of the public went behind the scenes to see what happens after a funeral service.

The Meadow Café was open during the day for refreshments and we all felt it was a very worthwhile event.
