Christmas Carol Service 2013
Wednesday, 11 December 2013
The crematorium held its annual Carols by Candlelight service on Wednesday 11th December. Once again it was very well attended, with lots of familiar faces and many new ones. The service was again taken by Major Lynn Oliver from the Salvation Army accompanied by the Bury St Edmunds Salvation Army Band as well as the Norton Band.
Jo Donlevy and David Waters did readings and a beautiful poem was read by Lynn Banham. As part of her Christmas message, Lynn Oliver sang “Mary, did you know” – a beautiful and apt song for this time of year – and candles were lit in memory of loved ones who have passed away. The service also had its fun moments, with the band giving us renditions of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and the carols were sung with great gusto by all those present.
Again the local funeral directors supported us – Bury St Edmunds East of England Co-op donated the service sheets, Armstrongs donated the candles and chapel decorations and L. Fulcher donated the refreshments. Special mention to the crematorium staff who once again gave their time to assist at the service and serve the refreshments, and for their enthusiasm in making the service such a success.
